WHAT IS VELOCARS

A Kenyan car marketplace, straight to the dealer.

VeloCars is a Kenyan car marketplace. Car dealers list vehicles from their own stock, either already in Kenya or on their way, and buyers contact the dealer directly by WhatsApp, phone or enquiry. VeloCars does not own or sell the cars.

Pay only once you have seen the car, test-driven it and confirmed its documents.

Questions buyers ask

Is VeloCars free for buyers?

Yes. Browsing, saving cars, comparing up to four cars and contacting dealers is free. VeloCars never asks buyers to pay for a car through VeloCars.

When should I pay for a car?

Only after you have inspected and test-driven the car, checked the logbook or import documents, and agreed the price and terms in writing with the dealer. Pay the dealer’s business account and get a receipt. Never pay a deposit to hold a car you have not seen.

What does “Verified dealer” mean?

The VeloCars team has checked the dealer’s business details. It does not guarantee any individual car, so you should still inspect the car and its documents before paying.

What does “In transit” mean?

The dealer has bought the car abroad and it is being shipped to Kenya. The listing shows an estimated arrival date, which can change, so confirm it with the dealer.

Can I import a specific car through VeloCars?

Yes. Send an import request with the make, model and budget you have in mind. A dealer who handles imports will reply with options and an estimate of the landed cost, including KRA duty, and you approve each step in your VeloCars customer account.

How is import duty on a used car worked out in Kenya?

KRA starts from the car’s Current Retail Selling Price (CRSP), reduces it for the car’s age, then applies import duty, excise duty, VAT and the IDF and RDL levies. Used cars older than eight years from their year of manufacture cannot be imported. Ask the dealer for an itemised estimate.
