A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

Planning a car import, step by step

Agree a vehicle brief, understand estimated costs and keep approvals in writing.

VeloCars product team · Prepared 26 October 2026 · General buying notes, not an inspection or assessment of any listing.

1 / Start with the whole picture

Start with the vehicle you need, your budget and your ideal timeframe. Select the dealer you want to speak to; an enquiry here is sent only to that dealer.

2 / Look for recorded facts

Ask for an itemised estimate that separates the overseas vehicle, freight, insurance, assessed duty, clearing, registration and the dealer’s fee. An estimate is not a guaranteed final cost.

3 / Ask, inspect and agree

Before purchase, approve a specific vehicle and the estimate in writing. Agree how exchange rates, additional costs, delays and cancellation will be handled.

4 / Keep the next steps clear

Ask for shipping updates and an estimated arrival date when one is available. Arrival dates can change. Confirm inspection, registration, payment and handover requirements before collection.

For a specific vehicle, confirm current information and written terms with the listing dealer.
