WHO WE ARE
About VeloCars
VeloCars is a Kenyan car marketplace where dealers list cars from their own stock and buyers contact them directly by WhatsApp, phone or enquiry.
What VeloCars is
VeloCars is a Kenyan car marketplace. Car dealers list vehicles from their own stock, both cars already in Kenya and cars being shipped in, and buyers contact the dealer directly. VeloCars does not own, sell, inspect or hold payment for any car. The sale is always between you and the dealer.
For buyers
- Search and filter by make, model, price in KES, year, mileage, body type, fuel, transmission, features and location.
- Read the details: photos, recorded specifications, the dealer’s description and when the car was listed.
- Save and compare: keep a shortlist and compare up to four cars side by side, from any dealer.
- Contact the dealer on WhatsApp, by phone, or by sending an enquiry, test-drive or callback request.
- Import a car: ask a dealer to source a specific car, see the estimated landed cost including KRA duty, and approve each step in your customer account.
Using VeloCars is free for buyers.
For dealers
Dealers run their business on the VeloCars workspace. They use it to manage stock, imports, customers and sales, and to publish cars to the marketplace. It covers:
- Vehicle inventory with photos, costs and features
- Imports with a KRA duty estimate and a clearance checklist
- Quotations, sales orders and purchase agreements
- Instalment plans, receipts and missed-payment follow-up
- Profit and stock reports
- A customer portal where buyers approve import proposals
Verified dealers
A “Verified dealer” badge means the VeloCars team has checked that dealer’s business details. It is a check of the business, not a guarantee of any individual car. Always inspect the car and its documents yourself.
Buy with care
Pay only once you have seen the car, test-driven it and confirmed its documents. Read our guide to buying a car safely.
Questions buyers ask
- What is VeloCars?
- VeloCars is a Kenyan car marketplace. Car dealers list vehicles from their own stock, either already in Kenya or on their way, and buyers contact the dealer directly by WhatsApp, phone or enquiry. VeloCars does not own or sell the cars.
- Is VeloCars free for buyers?
- Yes. Browsing, saving cars, comparing up to four cars and contacting dealers is free. VeloCars never asks buyers to pay for a car through VeloCars.
- When should I pay for a car?
- Only after you have inspected and test-driven the car, checked the logbook or import documents, and agreed the price and terms in writing with the dealer. Pay the dealer’s business account and get a receipt. Never pay a deposit to hold a car you have not seen.
- What does “Verified dealer” mean?
- The VeloCars team has checked the dealer’s business details. It does not guarantee any individual car, so you should still inspect the car and its documents before paying.
- What does “In transit” mean?
- The dealer has bought the car abroad and it is being shipped to Kenya. The listing shows an estimated arrival date, which can change, so confirm it with the dealer.
- Can I import a specific car through VeloCars?
- Yes. Send an import request with the make, model and budget you have in mind. A dealer who handles imports will reply with options and an estimate of the landed cost, including KRA duty, and you approve each step in your VeloCars customer account.
- How is import duty on a used car worked out in Kenya?
- KRA starts from the car’s Current Retail Selling Price (CRSP), reduces it for the car’s age, then applies import duty, excise duty, VAT and the IDF and RDL levies. Used cars older than eight years from their year of manufacture cannot be imported. Ask the dealer for an itemised estimate.
